Among modern day video games there is much emulation in terms of story and visuals. That is why Okami is so exceptional. released in 2006 by the now defunct Clover Studios (makers of the Veiwtiful Joe series) and ported in 2008 on the Nintendo Wii by Ready at Dawn; the game takes place in the ancient land of Nippon—an allegory for mystical ancient Japan—Okami is an adventure game following in the style of the famous Legend of Zelda franchise in many respects. However, both the combat system and the visuals are unique to the Okami game along with a series of in-game quests and innovations that make it a distinct and delightful video game.
The Mythical Story of Okami Ameterasu
In Okami you play the goddess Amaterasu of Japanese Shinto belief who has descended to the mortal world to help humanity after the ancient and powerful eight headed demon Orochi is released from his 100 years of imprisonment. In this particular story Amaterasu has appeared as a white wolf (based on a pun of Amaterasu-omikami, her full name) and travels the land with Issun an inch tall artist who often speaks for her.
