Now that The White Stripes have officially split, Jack White is going to have plenty of time to devote to his record company, Third Man Records, and today, March 9, 2011, the OfficialTMR YouTube Channel posted a video giving details of the new Third Man Rolling Record Store.
The Rolling Record Store is a big yellow truck with microphone, turntables and sound system for live performances, and will debut in Austin, Texas at the SXSW festival from 16-20 March. The opening screen of the video tells us “A recent study shows that 97% of young people have never been to a standalone record store.” Then it ponders the reason: “Maybe they couldn’t find one.” The video ends with the promise: “We’ll find you.”
Presumably, the Rolling Record Store will have have some big names on hand in Austin to get the whole thing off to a spectacular start. Jack White must have a pretty thick contacts book at this point, as he seems to have worked with half of the rock community. Not for nothing is he known as the busiest man in rock.
