In 1957, the game of Risk – which was then titled La Conquete du Monde, loosely translated "Conquest of the World" – was invented by a French film maker Albert Lamorisse. In 1959, Parker Brothers – which is now called Hasbro – released the first mass produced version of the game under the name "Risk". The Hasbro company states, "Since that time, nearly a dozen different variations of RISK have mapped out epic battles in the Star Wars universe, Middle-earth, Narnia, the moon, and various periods in world history. In the game of RISK there are no perfect moves. There are no guarantees. Because everything is at risk!"

The Strategy of Risk

Although the rules of Risk are simple, the game can become a tangled web of dominance and control with attacks and vengeance being dealt by people who were once thought to be friends. Step onto the battlefields of Risk and a player soon learns that in this game, there are no friends; there is only strategy. Each player must decide what is the best route to take, which troops to move and where to move them to as well as which nation to attack and attempt to conquer. In the strategies of the Risk game, Hasbro recommends, "Take no prisoners. Man up and mow 'em down to increase your odds at victory."
